Aqua Dunhinda is surrounded by the Kotmale Reservation that starts from the Kotmale Dam. The Kotmale Dam is ~10KM from the Villa and a scenic drive through ever green forest and villages. The Dam was open in 1985. As part of the resettlement a number of villages and temples had to be submerge and resettled in Gampola and other areas. The dam generates power from three 67 MW turbines, totaling the installed capacity to 201 MW, making it the second largest hydroelectric power station in Sri Lanka.
